HBO’s The Last of Us series set to start filming this July 2021
The Last of Us series of HBO, which is adapted from the video game of the same name, is going to start filming this summer.
As we all know, HBO is going to adapt the popular PlayStation exclusive game The Last of Us for TV. Planned to feature the dialogues from the game verbatim, the series will star Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller, and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. The series will tell of the adventures Joel and Ellie have to go through to survive in a post-apocalyptic future.
We now know when the producers plan to start and stop the filming. HBO‘s adaptation is going to start filming on July 5 this year, and the production is planned to wrap up on July 8 next year. That piece of news comes from the Director’s Guild of Canada, which also revealed that the filming is going to be in Calgary. There were some rumors about the filming being in Calgary, and those turned out to be true despite not being responded to by the producers.
HBO’s The Last of Us series possible release date
As the post-production process generally takes months, we can assume that the series is going to release around late 2022-early 2023. This is if everything goes according to the plan, although that is unlikely as it is highly possible for the series to encounter an obstacle during the production process. So, it is best for us to wait and wait for the updates as we still have a long way to go.
Druckmann also talked about the series:
“Things sometimes stay pretty close. It’s funny to see my dialogue there from the games in HBO scripts. And sometimes they deviate greatly to much better effect because we are dealing with a different medium. Some of my favorite episodes so far have deviated greatly from the story, and I can’t wait for people to see them.
For example, in the game, there’s so much action you have to have to train the player about mechanics. You have to have more violence and more spectacle to some degree than you would need on a TV show because you don’t need to train people on how to use a gun. So that’s something that’s been really different, and HBO’s been great in pushing us to move away from hardcore action and focus more on the drama of the character.”
What do we know about this series?
Neil Druckmann, who directed The Last of Us game, and Craig Mazin, who created the Chernobyl series, will work together to executive produce and write the new series of HBO. Kantemir Balagov is going to direct the series.
