Serj Tankian Says SOAD Could Have Been the Biggest Band

Serj Tankian talks about the future of the SYSTEM OF A DOWN. You can find the details of the interview below.

SOAD is an Armenian-American alternative metal band, founded in the United States in 1994. The group had dissolved twice before but got back together in 2010 and 2015. However, the SYSTEM OF A DOWN has not produced a project for a long time, and the band’s vocalist Serj Tankian is mostly producing solo projects.

Serj Tankian spoke to Apple Music and talked about the future and potential of the SYSTEM OF A DOWN:

SYSTEM OF A DOWN came together 15 years later and shared ‘Protect The Land’ and ‘Genocidal Humanoidz’ in 2020, which were released to raise awareness of the ongoing conflict in Artsakh.

During his interview with Apple Music, Serj talked about SOAD’s tracks and said that they can make all kinds of music.

“Obviously, we have songs that are not necessarily socio-political and are fun and all sorts of stuff. I think when we have done this, we have done it really well.”

Serj Tankian said that for the social and political songs they published last year, they rebelled with their music without using weapons, and that is what should have been.

Also, Serj said he is proud of SOAD’s recently released songs, and added that “it felt really great” for them to be working together once again.

What’s the future of the SYSTEM OF A DOWN?

“The future is unseen,” Serj said about the band’s future. However, he added: “We will see what happens. The vibe is very positive. As long as we’re on the same page, we can continue doing stuff, if we’re on the same page. ”

Serj Tankian says that SOAD’s music production process does not consist of personal opinions, but is even a philosophical process. He thinks the way and vision of SOAD see forward-looking music consider it to be the main feature of the group.

He also added: “There has been a discrepancy in that. But that obviously didn’t stop us from jumping on board for doing something for our people, which is beautiful. I don’t know what else to say. I think that’s where it’s at.”

SOAD’s latest album is ‘Mezmerize’ and ‘Hypnotize’ albums, which were released back in 2005. After these albums, they took a long break and did not produce music. Serj believes SOAD could be the biggest music band if this had been different and they had continued production.

“I still feel like we have a lot of music on us. We’re a massive draw internationally and here in the US. I think we could have been the biggest band in the world. Why not achieve that if you have the potential?” You can also listen to their new song here.
