This series based on The Saxon Stories by famous author Bernard Cornwell. Netflix pick-up streaming rights but also co-produced with BBC America. The Last Kingdom season 3 release in November 2018. This means there is a 17 months gap between season 3 and season 4. Before the new season of the series, season 4 already release to Netflix on April 26th, 2020. Then, Netflix renewed the series for season 5.

Here’s the official synopsis of this historical fiction series:
“The year is 872, and many of the separate kingdoms of what we now know as England have fallen to the invading Danes, leaving the great kingdom of Wessex standing alone and defiant under the command of King Alfred. Against this turbulent backdrop lives our hero, Uhtred. Born the son of a Saxon nobleman, he is captured by the Danes and raised as one of their own. Forced to choose between the country of his birth and the people of his upbringing, his loyalties are ever tested.

Season 5 follows the of Aethelflaed’s reinforcements, Edward besieges Winchester. Uhtred isn’t convinced that conquest is really Sigtryggr’s ultimate aim. Stiorra seeks to follow her own path. The wind shifts in Winchester.
