10 Things You Didn’t Know about Anthony Fantano

For more than a decade, Anthony Fantano has worked hard to build a platform for himself as a trusted music reviewer. Thanks to lots of hard work and dedication, that’s exactly what he’s become. Over the years, he has built a following that includes millions of people across the world, and his opinion has become highly respected among musicians and fans. Of course, being a critic also has its downsides because there are plenty of people who see him as nothing more than a hater. However, Anthony has never been the type to let what other people think stop him from doing what he loves. Keep reading to learn 10 things you didn’t know about Anthony Fantano.

1. He’s A Connecticut Native

As someone who was born and raised in Connecticut, I can’t help but break into an internal happy dance any time I find that someone else is found there. Not only is Anthony originally from Connecticut, but he also attended college at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.

2. He Met His Wife Online

For the most part, Anthony has done a good job of keeping his personal life off of the internet but we do know that he is married to a woman named Dominique Boxley. According to Celeb Suburb, Anthony and Dominique met online back in 2008. She appeared in some of his videos when he first started posting, but once his following started to grow she decided to take a step back for the sake of her privacy.

3. He Got His Start Doing Radio

Early in Anthony’s career, he had no plans on being in front of the camera. He got his start at the Southern Connecticut State University radio station and he eventually moved on to Connecticut Public Radio where he hosted his own show. He started making video reviews in 2009.

4. He’s A Vegan

Anthony has been following a vegan diet for more than a decade. During an interview with Green Room Magazine, Anthony said, “I’ve been vegetarian since I was eighteen or nineteen. Veganism was something that I just slowly grew into as I learned to cook with more things that weren’t animal products. It was also a matter of me learning more about nutrition and all that. I do it mostly for health reasons.”

5. He’s A Musician

Music reviews are the first thing that most people think of when Anthony comes to mind, but some people may not be aware of the fact that he’s also a musician. He plays the bass guitar. In 2015, he released his debut album called Anthony FanFiction Vol.1, but it’s unclear if he has plans to release more projects in the future.

6. He’s Struggled With His Weight

Anthony may be ‘the man’ now, but that wasn’t always the case. At one point in his life, Anthony weighed over 300 pounds which made him stick out among his peers. Eventually, he was able to drop the weight and becoming a vegan has helped him maintain a healthy lifestyle.

7. He Listens To Songs Several Times Before Starting His Review

Most people would agree that it’s hard to form a clear opinion on a song after just listening to it one time. For that reason, Anthony likes to listen to things multiple times before he reviews. During an interview with Forbes, Anthony said that, on average, he listens to songs four to six times before reviewing. He also takes notes in the process.

8. He Isn’t Afraid To Get A Little Political

For the most part, Anthony likes to keep his platform focused on music. However, during the 2020 presidential election, Anthony made it clear that he supported Bernie Sanders. While talking to The Progressive Voice, Anthony described himself as a “Berniecrat”.

9. He Likes Giving Advice

Music isn’t the only thing that Anthony likes to share his opinion on. Apparently, he also likes to shell out advice. He has an entire highlight section dedicated to advice on his Instagram profile, and there are a lot of people who are interested in getting his insight on various topics.

10. He Isn’t Afraid To Change His Mind

Have you ever thought you felt one way about a song only for your opinion to change over time? If the answer is yes, you aren’t alone. This is a feeling that Anthony can relate to as well, and even with his massive platform, he isn’t scared to admit that his opinion on some albums has changed over time. Anthony told Forbes, “There are plenty of records out there that have increased in terms of enjoyability. Opinions are not written in stone.”
