Former Death & Cynic band drummer Sean Reinert death at 48

Sean Reinert dead at 48. He is a former Death and Cynic drummer and he has passed away. He was found unresponsive at his California home on January 24. No cause of death is known at this time.

In 1991, Sean Reinert and Masvidal joined the legendary Death band to record the fourth album “Human”. After touring with Death, they returned and found Cynic. After that, in 1993 Cynic’s release debut album, “Focus”. Also, Cynic’s before breaking up in 1994. Then Reinert and Masvidal relocated to Los Angeles, where they continued working with music by writing and performing for television shows and motion pictures.

In 1999, Sean helped form ÆON SPOKE alongside Masvidal. In 2007, Cynic reunion for a tour and recorded a new album, “Traced In Air”. This was released in 2008. After that, “Traced In Air”, Cynic issued two conceptual EPs, “Re-Traced” (2010) and “Carbon-Based Anatomy” (2011). Sean Reinert’s final recorded appearance with this band was “Kindly Bent To Free Us”, which came out in February 2014.

He also played his last shows with Cynic in September 2015 in Japan. He later said that the “performances were not up to par” and blamed the band’s lack of preparation on “the accumulation of differences in musical directions and business practices.”

Reinert’s friend Kelly Shaefer of fellow Florida death metal band Atheist also acknowledged the news on Facebook, posted, “RIP Sean Reinert, my friend for 30 + years and one of the best drummers on the planet. Someone make it stop…..I can’t believe this.”
