Lucasfilm announced that Gina Carano was no longer employed by The Mandalorian studio. The news was due to her offensive social media posts. Since Gina Carano is now no longer attached to play Cara Dune in any productions, the fans supported her with a petition to get her rehired.
Gina Carano shared a TikTok post. In the post, she wrote: “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews. The government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”
After her post, the production company made an announcement. The announcement reads: “Gina Carano is currently not employed by Lucasfilm. There are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
There were people who were outraged by her controversial posts that supported the studio’s decision. On the other hand, the actress also had fans who were furious that she was no longer employed in the company. The fans set up a Change.org petition demanding Lucasfilm to rehire the former MMA star. The fans made comments on how she was just “speaking her mind” and not trying to be rude to anyone. The petition has gained a lot of signs. At the current count, it’s risen to nearly 24,000 signatures.
Gina Carano Petition statement:
- “This petition is for the executives at Disney. Please, why can’t you just leave politics out of the industry and press on? “The Mandalorian” is a fantastic show, and Gina Carano’s portrayal of Cara Dune is a joy to watch. The Mandalorian wouldn’t be the same without her., To the fans of “The Mandalorian,” please. Speak out. Disney needs to stop the trend of firing actors for controversial tweets, and just keep treating the fans to a great show. Rehire Gina Carano. Firing her isn’t justice.”
