10 Things You Didn’t Know about Rapper HD

When up and coming rapper HD, initially gained recognition in 2019 when a video of his song “Ghetto Sunday” went viral. Although the song itself was a great display of HD’s lyrical talent, people were more surprised by the fact that he sounds just like Jay-Z. The rappers’ voices are so similar that some people thought that HD was actually lip-syncing over Jay-Z’s vocals. While HD doesn’t mind the comparison, he also wants to show the world that he is a unique artist who has his own sound and message that he wants to share with the world. He was recently signed to Def Jam, and he’s looking forward to what the future has in store for him. Keep reading to learn 10 things you didn’t know about Rapper HD.

1. He’s From Brooklyn

HD’s voice isn’t the only thing he has in common with Jay-Z. Like the legendary rapper, he was also born and raised in Brooklyn. Although he is very proud of where he’s from, he knew that he had to make it out of Brooklyn if he wanted to pursue his dreams. He currently lives in Long Island.

2. He Loves Storytelling

One of the cool things about rap is that there isn’t just one right way to do it. Some rappers like to focus on creating high-energy party music while others, like HD, prefer to focus on the art of storytelling. According to Power 105.1, HD said, “I want to give people a story, and to tell a story for the people that aren’t able to share their story or they are reluctant to tell their story. So that’s what I’m here for.”

3. He’s Suffered Some Tough Losses

Things in HD’s life weren’t always easy. He had to deal with some challenges when he was growing up, including the loss of his brother and other friends and family members. Fortunately, he had a strong support system full of people who wanted to see him succeed.

4. He Was In The Military

HD’s path to getting into the music industry wasn’t exactly a straight shot. He started rapping seriously when he was a teenager and by the time he was 16 he had gotten a lot of attention for his talents. However, he had a difficult time landing a record deal because people felt that the content of his songs was too mature for his age. He eventually decided to join the military and he served in the Marines.

5. He’s A Big Kobe Bryant Fan

Being compared to two of the greatest to ever do it is something that HD has in common with the late Kobe Bryant. Kobe spent much of his career being compared to Michael Jordan, but he always handled it with grace. That is something that HD learned from Kobe and he was a big fan of his style and work ethic.

6. Music Has Always Been A Big Part Of His Life

HD might be the first person in his family to pursue a professional music career, but he certainly isn’t the first one to love music. During an interview with The Sitdown with EmEz, HD shared that he grew up in a very musical household. At an early age, he was exposed to different kinds of music and that has really influenced who he has become as an artist.

7. He Loves Jewelry

Everybody has at least one thing they’re willing to spend lots of money on, and for HD that thing is jewelry. From chains to watches, he loves expensive jewelry and he isn’t afraid to let it show. At the same time, however, he can also go out and perform without wearing a lot of jewelry.

8. He Isn’t Very Into Social Media

As someone who is new to the music industry, most people would probably expect HD to spend a lot of time on social media. So far, however, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Although he has an Instagram account, he didn’t really start posting until this year and all of his posts are strictly related to his music.

9. Family Is Important To Him

We don’t have a lot of details about HD’s family situation, but we do know that family means a lot to him. During his conversation with The Sitdown with EmEz, HD shared that he was raised by four women including three aunts. He credited them with helping him become the caring and compassionate man he is today.

10. He Doesn’t Believe In Age

There are a lot of people who believe that age is nothing more than a number, but HD takes things a step further – he doesn’t believe in age at all. Like one of his idols, Prince, HD doesn’t think that people should count their age. That being said, he is in his late 20s.
