Sherlock Season 5 Possible Release and Interviews
We are in the longest period without new episodes of Sherlock since 2010. Despite there always have been long breaks between seasons, Sherlock Holmes has been away for over four years making fans wonder whether it will continue someday or not. And it seems Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman had something to say about a potential Sherlock season 5, after all.
In one of his recent interviews, Benedict Cumberbatch had pointed out to “never say never” when it comes to Sherlock. Following him, Dr. Watson’s Martin Freeman has also spoken about the possibility of the fifth season of Sherlock, as well.
Will Sherlock season 5 happen?
Martin Freeman has recently made an interview with Collider, where he talks about the second season of his FX TV series Breeders along with revealing new hints for Sherlock. Freeman also explains his role mate Cumberbatch’s suggestion of a Sherlock movie instead of season 5 along with his thoughts about returning to the series.
“Yeah, I think it is possible. It might be more likely, yeah. I think we’ve all left it so that it’s not a full stop, it’s just a big ellipsis or a big pause. Maybe it’s because we don’t want to say, ‘Oh, it’s a full stop.’ I’m not sure. To be honest, I’m a big believer in not going past your sell-by-date, in anything, really. Don’t outstay your welcome. So, I suppose we would have to see if we have outstayed our welcome when the time comes, and whether people have moved on to something else.
So, I don’t know. I really liked doing it. I’m very proud of the show. It’s one of the best-written things I’ve done. It’s one of the best-directed things I’ve done. I really enjoy doing it, but I don’t know. It’s been a while now. It’s four years since a new one was on. So, yeah, maybe the more likely thing is a one-off,” reflects the beloved actor his thoughts.
They are both really busy, though
In the meantime, Morgan Freeman has been working like a bee and got his hands full with other projects. Along with having appeared in MCU’s Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther, he will star in the upcoming miniseries, The Responder as he also continues to Breeders for its second season, which will premiere soon on March 22.
Benedict Cumberbatch also mentioned earlier that he and Freeman have been got their hands full which makes really hard to continue Sherlock at the same time. We already saw the beloved and talented actor in the Golden Globe-winning The Mauritanian. On the other hand, Cumberbatch’s schedule also includes The Electrical Life of Louis Wain and along with his starring role in The Power of the Dog. And these two aren’t included in his list of MCU projects. We will see our charming doctor not only in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness but also in Spider-Man: No Way Home, too.
So it’s pretty understandable for both of them to not be able to continue for a Sherlock season 5 sadly, while they are both working hard in their own separate projects. As you can all assume, even if we will get a chance to see Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman back together as Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John Watson, it won’t be happening anytime soon. But that’s okay, at least now we have more hope since both of the beloved actors also seem to agree and speak positively about the future. What do you say? Wouldn’t it be worth waiting to meet them again?
