The Time Jada Pinkett Begged 2Pac Not to Beat Down Will Smith

These days, Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith are well-known in the entertainment industry and have been for many years. However, it wasn’t always that way. Back in the mid-1990s, things were quite different indeed. Both individuals were just getting their career started. As a matter of fact, Jada Pinkett Smith, who wasn’t even married at the time, had just started in her first movie. She also had a friendship with Tupac Shakur and his right-hand man Napoleon. As it turns out, there may have been a bit of a rift between Tupac and Will Smith, something that she felt it necessary to intervene in.

The Truth Comes Out

All these years later, the truth has finally come out. In fact, there’s probably more information about all of this than Jada Pinkett Smith or anyone else wanted to be revealed. It all started with a party that was formed to celebrate what would have been Tupac Shakur’s 50th birthday. If you remember, he was shot and killed 25 years ago. Jada Pinkett Smith decided to get up and say a few words at the event and when she did, she read a poem that Shakur had written while he was in prison at Rikers Island during the mid-90s. Apparently, that poem turned into a song that ended up on a subsequent album. More poignantly, the poem was apparently about Jada Pinkett Smith and the relationship that the two had. It’s not widely believed that the two were ever more than good friends. However, something had happened between Shakur and Will Smith to upset the rapper enough for Jada Pinkett Smith to believe that he was going to beat Smith up. Remember, she wasn’t even married at the time. Therefore, it’s not fully known exactly what happened between the two or why there was a rift between them to begin with. All that is known is what she has chosen to share and that has only led to more questions as opposed to answering anything. It’s also caused a bit of a problem between her and Will Smith, something that only serves to make matters worse when they were already in a rough spot in their marriage.

A Rough Patch Made Worse

Without a doubt, the rough patch that the Smiths have been going through in the last year so it’s not likely to get better any time soon, especially after Jada Pinkett Smith made the decision to get up in front of a crowd and read this poem. It’s no secret that the two of them have been struggling with a few issues in their marriage over the last several months, something that has been widely publicized in the tabloids and even mainstream media. However, this was something that Will Smith apparently wanted to keep quiet. After all, there doesn’t seem to be a need to make this public knowledge. Everyone knows that if you get up and say something like this in front of a crowd, even when that crowd is largely composed of friends, it’s going to end up in the media in short order. The end result is that a very private altercation has now been made public, decades after the fact. It’s understandable that Will Smith may not be happy with this outcome, as it would be difficult for even the most agreeable of individuals to be okay with such a thing. Nevertheless, she made the decision to read the poem and make this very public indeed. As one would expect, now both she and her husband are dealing with the fallout. By all accounts, it doesn’t seem that this is going to end any time soon, either.

A Matter of Respect

Apparently, there was no real need for her to get involved in the situation to begin with. She publicly admits that she asked Tupac Shakur not to beat up Will Smith and Napoleon has confirmed that information. However, he went on to share some additional information as well. It seems that when she asked Shakur not to do this, it hurt his feelings a great deal. According to Napoleon, he had so much respect for Jada Pinkett Smith that he would not have even dreamed of touching a hair on Will Smith’s head. Napoleon went on to provide further details, saying that it hurt Tupac Shakur’s feelings very deeply that she felt as though she had to intervene, like he wouldn’t make the right decision on his own. Apparently, he never said anything to her about having hurt feelings, only agreeing that he wouldn’t do anything and leaving it at that.

Digging Up the Past

Some have asked the question regarding why she thought she needed to get involved in the first place back in the 1990s. Others have been more understanding. However, even those individuals who were understanding have questioned why she decided to get up in front of a group of people and make all of this public knowledge 25 years after it all happened. It seems that it didn’t do anything except create questions and hurt feelings on all sides. It’s doubtful that this was her intention, but that is the end result. At this point, no one involved has any recourse but to deal with the situation as best they can and move on.

At the end of the day, it comes down to one thing- trust. For many years, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith seem to have a great deal of trust in their marriage. In fact, that seemed to be the thing that helped them stay together when so many Hollywood couples end up falling apart. That said, things haven’t been as good for them recently and no one knows how this particular incident will affect things in the long run. Hopefully, it will all dissipate without any further issues so they can get on with trying to rebuild their relationship.
