The Five Best Aerosmith Love Ballads of All-Time

Aerosmith

Aerosmith is well known as one of the most prolific bands of all time. In addition, they have been performing for decades, amassing a number of songs that have become fan favorites. Not incidentally, some of those fan-favorites involve love ballads. While Aerosmith may be known as something of a head-banging rock band, they are just as adept at creating some of the most moving lyrics for ballads that you could ever possibly imagine. If you don’t believe that fact, all you have to do is check out the five love ballads that are listed below. If at least one of the songs on this list doesn’t move you, you might want to check and see if you still have a pulse. Below are the top five love ballads from Aerosmith, listed from number five to number one, all of them complete with a YouTube link so you can listen for yourself and decide which one you like best.

5. What Could Have Been

Virtually every band has at least one ballad about love that has been lost. This is Aerosmith’s version of that type of song. It’s also one of the most heartbreaking songs that the band has ever done. It’s all about love that has been lost in the most heartbreaking way possible, telling the story of a couple who have fallen out of love with one another. The lyrics go on to ask what could have been done differently in order to have prevented the eventual outcome, telling the story of a person who is genuinely heartbroken and searching for a way to somehow go on, even in the face of something so tragic that it makes you feel like you simply can’t take another breath. The song definitely does a good job of telling the story of a lost love, driving the point painfully home. For anyone that has ever fallen in love with someone, only to have the situation not work out in the end, this is a song that could potentially bring about plenty of tears all by itself. If you think that you have the nerves to handle it, go ahead and give it a listen. On the other hand, if you yourself are just coming out of a bad relationship, you might want to give it a while before you decide to listen to this song, as it could bring all of those old feelings back in full force.

4. Hole in My Soul

As you might have guessed, this is another song that can make you feel an entire gamut of emotions, often making you feel like you’re on something of an emotional roller coaster from one verse to the next. After all, the title pretty much gives it away. When you love someone so much that you feel like your very soul is attached to them in some manner and then that person is taken away, it can become one of the most difficult things that you would ever have to deal with. This is the song that explores what living that type of life feels like. It gives you a first hand account of having your very soul torn away from your body and ripped to shreds. This song is a love ballad, to be sure. However, it’s not exactly the type of love ballad that’s going to put a smile on your face.

3. Can’t Stop Loving You

This is not only a powerful love ballad, but one that they collaborated with Carrie Underwood on. The lyrics are absolutely amazing, telling the story of someone who loves another person through thick and thin, no matter what comes their way. Unconditional love is something that is found in increasingly rare qualities. Hearing a song about someone that truly has that type of love for another person is enough to make your heart soar and bring tears to your eyes, all at the same time. For that reason, the song just had to be on this list. There are moments that are sad and others that are uplifting, making it one of the songs that accurately depicts what it’s truly like to love another person.

2. Angel

Most of the time, someone who is deeply in love thinks of the person they are in love with as their saving grace, maybe even their angel. That’s how this song got its title. It talks about meeting another person to come and save the person in the song. How many times have you been in love, yet found yourself in a difficult situation, wishing that the person that you are in love with would come and sweep you off your feet in order to rescue you from it all? Most everyone who has ever been in love has felt this way at least once or twice. Of course, there are plenty of Aerosmith’s classic examples of hard rock here, but it’s also one of the most powerful love ballads that the band has ever performed.

1. I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing

This is easily the most poignant song that Aerosmith has ever recorded as a love song. It talks about the little things the people enjoy between one another, even talking about being able to hear another person breathing and feeling your heartbeat. If you’ve ever truly loved someone, you know how much comfort it can bring to simply hear them take a breath or to feel the rhythmic beating of their heart when they hug you. The song talks about not wanting to miss those little things and making the most of every single moment because you have no idea how many of those moments you will get. It’s a song that does what so many people can’t do, putting those types of feelings into words that actually make sense. While the song talks about romantic love, it can be taken to mean any type of love between two people, both platonic and romantic. For that reason and for the special meaning behind it, it lands in the number one spot with ease.
