Serj Tankian interview about lack of System of a Down new album

Serj Tankian frontman of the System of a Down band reveals why they release any new music. He also reveals the SOAD’s reasons for lack of new record.

System of a Down’s new album still waiting because there’s a lot of conflict in the band. They can’t release a new album, follow-up to its 2005 albums ‘Mezmerize‘ and ‘Hypnotize‘. In these 15 years, SOAD‘s band members discuss the new album or any new songs project. But in an interview in 2018, the band guitarist Daron Malakian publicly accused Serj of not wanting to record. They also talk and responding that creative and financial issue with Daron Malakian.

On May 24th, Serj Tankian interview in Live chat with Tumo Center For Creative Technologies:

“There’s been many things said, but it’s quite simple: We just haven’t been able to see eye-to-eye creatively to go to the next level. To me – and I know to the other guys in the band – System’s very special. What we’ve done together is very special and we can’t do something unless we’re all really, really in the same direction, into the same goal, into the same vision.

Also, that hasn’t happened. We tried. I would say a couple of years ago, we made that effort – songs were written by myself, by the other guys, but we just couldn’t see eye-to-eye, and that’s really it. And that’s OK. We’re still all friends, we have great relationships, and we tour together, we have fun together, and that’s that.”

Also, the drummer John Dolmayan recently talks about that lack:

“I don’t see us recording – we’re pretty stupid about that. We haven’t released an album in 15 years, and I think the people in my band are more stubborn or less stubborn, so it’s pretty unlikely.”
