‘The Case Study of Vanitas’ Manga is Being Adapted into Anime Show

Hello, shonen manga and anime lovers! We are here to give you some news we thought you might get excited about. The beloved manga ‘The Case Study of Vanitas’ series reportedly being adapted into a television anime series that will premiere this summer.

The Japanese shonen manga series is written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki and its chapters are serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine since December 2015. On the other hand, the manga has been published simultaneously in English by Yen Press since its debut and Square Enix published the 8 volume on June 22. Thereby, ‘The Case Study of Vanitas’ manga was also listed on the American Library Association’s Young Adult Library Services Association’s 2018 list of Great Graphic Novels for Teens, as well.

And now, the beloved manga’s anime TV series adaptation is being produced by Bones to premiere in July 2021. Bones has just announced that the beloved and popular anime receiving an anime at AnimeJapan on March 28th.

The already anticipated anime will be directed by Tomoyuki Itamura, with scripts overseen by Deko Akao and character designs by Yoshiyuki Ito. So, let’s take a closer look at what else revealed so far about the upcoming anime of The Case Study of Vanitas.

What is the synopsis of ‘The Case Study of Vanitas’ manga series?

The Case Study of Vanitas is set in 19th-century Paris containing vampire and steampunk thematic. Manga’s publisher Yen Press describes the first volume as:

“Rumors revolving around The Book of Vanitas, a clockwork grimoire of dubious reputation, draw Noé, a young vampire in search of a friend’s salvation, to Paris. What awaits him in the City of Flowers, however, is not long hours treading the pavement or rifling through dusty bookshops in search of the tome. Instead, his quarry comes to him…in the arms of a man claiming to be a vampire doctor! Thrust into a conflict that threatens the peace between humans and vampires, will Noé cast in his lot with the curious and slightly unbalanced Vanitas and his quest to save vampirekind?”

Considering the manga, we’ll mostly follow the journey of Vanitas who claims to be a doctor curing vampires malnomen which causes vampires to behave predatorily against their will. There is also a book named Book of Vanitas, which Vanitas uses to heal vampires. This book is connected to the original Vanitas, the Vampire of the Blue Moon, hated by the Vampires of the Red Moon who form traditional Vampire society. On the other side, Noé Archiviste, who is to become his friend, comes to Paris for a blimp ride. So, they meet and decide to join forces to heal vampires but they also will face a threat of some unknown force named Charlatan which may be responsible for corrupting the sick vampires in the first place.

The main characters’ voicers of the upcoming anime are officially confirmed to be Natsuki Hanae as Vanitas, and Kaito Ishikawa as Noé Archiviste. There isn’t much more detail revealed so far, though. And the anime’s opening theme song “Sora to Sora” will be performed by Sasanomaly.

When will ‘The Case Study of Vanitas’ release?

As we said, the upcoming anime series is expected to air in July 2021 this summer, unless something goes wrong.
