Danny Brown has been in the music industry for well over a decade. Unfortunately, however, his name has never become widely known. The talented rapper’s unique and creative style has allowed him to build a big fan base, but he has never gained much commercial success. At the same time, though, he has earned the respect of many other artists, and Danny’s dedication to his craft is something that hasn’t gone unnoticed. 1. He’s A Michigan Native
Danny was born and raised in the Detroit area. He is 1/4 Filipino on his father’s side. From an early age, Danny’s parents did their best to protect him from the harsh realities of the Detroit streets. However, his parents eventually went their separate ways and things around the house became less strict. By the time he was 18, Danny ended up becoming a drug dealer.
2. He’s A Homebody
There is often this perception that people in the entertainment industry love being out and about all of the time. While that may be true for some people, it’s certainly not true for Danny Brown. He is the kind of person who loves spending as much time as he can at home. His home is the perfect place for him to relax and recharge.
3. He Started Rapping In Kindergarten
Most kindergarteners aren’t interested in anything other than taking naps and playing with their friends. Danny, however, wasn’t like most of the other kids. He actually started rapping in Kindergarten. During an interview with NPR, he said, “I went to school one day and it was show and tell. But I didn’t know that it was show and tell and I had nothing to show or tell. So I [was] just like, forget it, and just rapped in front of the class — and then everybody went crazy. So I was like, I don’t know, maybe I got something. Then I rapped for my cousin … and he was like, “You didn’t write that!” I was like, “I didn’t, I just kind of came up with it.”
4. He’s Struggled With Mental Health
Mental health is one of those topics that is difficult for a lot of people to talk about. However, over the years Danny has been open about the fact that he’s dealt with depression and anxiety. As many other people in the music industry have expressed, sometimes the pressure of being an entertainer can really take a toll on people.
5. He Loves Watching YouTube
Danny is the kind of person who loves learning new things, and YouTube is one of his favorite places to gather new information. Danny told Loud and Quiet, “I’m on YouTube all day. That’s my cable, that’s my TV in some sense. I watch a lot of conspiracy theory breakdown channels and stuff like that.”
6. He’s Fought Through Addiction
Things haven’t always been easy for Danny over the years. In addition to the challenges he’s faced with his mental health, Danny has also struggled with addiction. In fact, during the early days of his career, lots of his music was centered around drinking and doing drugs. However, in more recent years, he’s made an effort to take better care of himself.
7. He’s A Fan Of Garage Music
Just because Danny is a rapper doesn’t mean that rap is the only kind of music that he listens to. He has always been the kind of person who likes to explore different sounds, and he loves listening to UK garage music. While the genre may not be as lyrical is hip-hop, Danny believes it still creates a great vibe.
8. Ali Shaheed Muhammad Bought Him His First Computer
When Danny Brown started his music career, he didn’t even have his own computer. He was using his girlfriend’s computer which wasn’t always the most convenient setup when he wanted to work on things at the spur of the moment. When Ali Shaheed Muhammad from a Tribe Called Quest learned that Danny didn’t have a computer, he ended up buying him a Macbook.
9. He’s A Dad
Overall, Danny has been pretty private when it comes to his personal life. However, we do know that he is a proud father. He has one daughter who is around 19 years old. When she was younger, Danny expressed interest in writing a children’s book, but it doesn’t appear that it was ever completed.
10. He’s A Gamer
Video games have been a part of Danny’s life for a long time. When he was younger, his parents saw video games as a way to keep him in the house. He continues to enjoy gaming as an adult and he even has an account on Twitch where he often streams his game play.
