10 Things You Didn’t Know about DJ Paul

DJ Paul

If you’re a fan of rap music, you might be quite familiar with the name DJ Paul. After all, he’s been a mainstay in the world of rap music since the late 1980s. However, there is probably a great deal you don’t know about him if the only thing you’re doing is listening to his music in the rap and hip-hop genres. That’s definitely a start, but if you really want to know more, you have to dive deeper. Below are 10 things that might surprise you about DJ Paul.

1. He has a congenital condition that affects his right arm

He was born with a condition called Erb’s Palsy. In short, it is a condition that can affect the development of the nerves in the affected limb, thereby making that limb shorter and less well-developed. Doctors believe that it often happens when something goes wrong during the last moments of childbirth, such as when the baby’s neck has been stretched out of position. Since nerves can affect growth, the affected limb typically doesn’t grow as well as the other limb, nor is it fully functional.

2. He learned that it’s crucial to have a good sense of humor

You might think that he would feel like he wasn’t given a fair shot, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The reality of the situation is that he tends to make light of it, when he mentions it at all. He doesn’t typically talk about it unless someone else asks him a direct question and when they do, he usually makes a joke about it and moves on. It’s important to note that in addition to providing vocals on the many tracks he’s released, he also plays a number of musical instruments, including the keys and drums. Clearly, he has not let this congenital abnormality affect him. He doesn’t consider it a disability in the slightest, and he doesn’t want anyone else to, either.

3. He tries to educated others and make them more aware

What he does try to do is educate others about having enough tenacity to keep going, even when it looks like the cards are stacked against you. He could have easily given up, failed to create any music, and believe that he was disabled because of his arm. Instead, he chose to embrace life and overcome any obstacles that might have been awaiting him. He serves as living proof that other people can do exactly the same thing.

4. He’s also a perfect example of learning to have self-confidence

In addition to serving as a living, breathing inspiration, he also helps other people have more self-confidence, especially those individuals who are dealing with something similar. Unfortunately, it’s easy for people who have any type of differences whatsoever to be singled out. Most people consider that to be a bad thing and it can be very uncomfortable at times, there is no doubt about that. However, he has taught many of his fans that being different can be a good thing, too. It doesn’t have to be something negative in any way.

5. He’s related to late rapper Lord Infamous

He’s related to another famous rapper, Ricky Dunigan. You might be more familiar with his stage name, Lord Infamous. In fact, it was he and DJ Paul that formed the rap group Three 6 Mafia. As it turns out, Lord Infamous was his half-brother, through his mother. Despite the fact that the two of them weren’t technically full brothers, they always acted like they were. To them, it really didn’t make any difference. They were quite close and had similar interests, so it only made sense that they spent a lot of time together. Their shared music endeavors only served to make them closer than they had ever been in the past.

6. He took his brother’s death very hard

As a result of DJ Paul’s closeness with his brother, he took it very hard when Lord Infamous died. In fact, he died a few years ago at the relatively young age of 40, from a heart attack. DJ Paul has recounted that fact in a couple of interviews, saying how hard it was on the family. It was made even more difficult because Lord Infamous had reportedly fallen asleep at the family’s kitchen table while no one else was home. According to DJ Paul, it was his mother who came in from work in the middle of the night and found him, apparently asleep. When she tried to wake him, she discovered that he was dead. Medical experts say that he had died from a heart attack in his sleep and had been there for approximately five hours before being found.

7. Some of the bands he’s worked with might surprise you

If you think you might remember him from his days with Insane Clown Posse, you’d be correct. For some reason, the fact that he used to play with the band seems to surprise most people. Nevertheless, he did indeed play with them for a short time. He’s also worked with a number of other bands, including Yelawolf.

8. He’s also enjoyed a career in both film and television

He’s always had an interest in film. As such, he’s been involved in three Jackass movies, Jackass Number 2 and Jackass 2.5, released in 2006 and 2007, respectively. He also worked on the 2021 film, Jackass Forever. In addition to his work in these films, he’s also been involved in a number of television projects, including MTV Cribs and Celebrity Wife Swap.

9. He has his own side hustle

He also produces his own clothing line and even an entire line of barbecue seasonings. One thing is certain, he understands marketing. As such, he’s managed to market these two very different product lines quite successfully.
