Maynard Thoughts About PUSCIFER’s “Existential Reckoning” Album
Maynard James Keenan reveals his thoughts about PUSCIFER‘s “Existential Reckoning” album. This follow-up album to the latest “Money Shot,” also will release the end of October 2020.
A few days ago, Maynard reveals his battle for COVID-19. He also says, “I still have a cough. Every other day, I have these coughing fits because my lungs are still damaged at the tips. ” But he can’t stop to the work for the PUSCIFER’s upcoming album “Existential Reckoning.”
And, the band’s guitarist Mat Mitchell who started working 5 years ago, with most of the songs recording session done in mid-2019.
During the interview with AZ Central, Maynard James Keenan reveals how they record this upcoming album and how he feels about that:
“As soon as everything was kind of wrapped up with the last record. I did, I immediately jumped in on listening to the pieces Mat had been recording and kind of started dabbling in it at the end of ’18, going full force at the beginning of ’19. Vocal melodies and rhythms, we kind of establish those first.
Once those start to take more shape, I dig in with trying to establish the stories, fed by past experience, current experience, where you think things might go. They’re all kind of a reaction to sound, so whatever the sounds are presenting, they kind of set the mood. We have two studios. The one that’s in North Hollywood, in the Valley. And we have the one at the Bunker in Jerome. Mat will do some traveling. I’ll do some traveling. Carina will jump in where needed. But she and Mat kind of hunker down in LA mostly.”
He also answered: “Was the writing going on while you were touring with Tool? Are you able to do that?”
“It’s just a matter of taking one piece and listening to it, taking notes. And then at some point, you let it marinate for a while, and then you dig in. You’ve got to remember, there’s also harvest every year from July to October.
That’s where we do a lot or most of our recording. A lot of it was done last year. And then, we mixed it this year. Some things were still lingering at the beginning of the year. But we tracked most of it from harvest into the later months of the year. Yeah. I came home in February, March.”
PUSCIFER’s upcoming album ‘Existential Reckoning’ will release on October 30th, 2020. You can also pre-order here.
