The Top Five Upcoming Rap Albums We’re Looking Forward To

It’s fair to assume after being inside an entire year, that this summer will be full of playlists to remember.  The weather is just heating up and we’ve already been blessed with albums from DJ Khaled and J. Cole, as well as an album worth of recently released tracks from Nikki Minaj. But wait, there’s more! Here are the Top Five Up and Coming Rap Albums We’re Looking Forward to.

5. Lil Tecca – We Love You Tecca 2

Tyler-Justin Anthony Sharpe aka Lil Tecca is a dread-headed brace-faced unexpectedly fire 18-year-old rapper. Tecca proved his place as a mainstream hit maker with the release of his single “Ransom”, which peaked all the way at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Ransom” was a part of his debut mixtape, “We Love You Tecca” in 2019. Lil Tecca’s debut studio album, Virgo World 2020 delivered hit after hit and made number 10 on the Billboard 200.The album was a no track skip project and included the Billboard Hot 100 chartings songs “Dolly” and “When you Down.”

“We Love You Tecca 2” is expected to be Lil Tecca’s follow-up to the August 2019 album quality mixtape. The album is expected to be released this June. Right it time to be a part of our 2021 soundtrack. If this project is anything like the previous it’ll be straight windows down, music blasting, bass in the trunk summer bangers. After the summer we had last year, We should be looking forward to Loving Tecca all summer 2021.

4. Lil Durk and Lil Baby – Voice of The Heroes

Voice of the Heroes two is arguable one of the most highly anticipated rap released of the season. Swizz Beatz actually announced that the hood hero dynamic duo would be pushing their release dat back in honor of DMX. This kind of classy boss move alludes to the tone of the album, Not all heroes wear capes.  In an interview Lil Durk stated, “Kids look at us like heroes.” While we wait for the drop the pair has gifted us with a lively attention grabbing music video for their latest collaboration. “Every Chance I Get” off of the new DJ Khaled album, “Khaled Khaled.”

3. DMX – Exodus

DMX, born Earl Simmons died after suffering a heart attack this year as a result of a suspected drug overdose in his White Plains New York home. The world stopped in that moment as Hip-Hop fans all around the world mourned the loss of a legend. Fans flooded the streets for his memorial service which was held at the Barclays Center. Swizzled Beatz, the glue to the Ruff Ryders, DMX’s friend and producer, announced that a 13-track posthumous LP, Exodus is set to be released. The LP is full of powerful supportive features including the likes of Jay-Z, Nas, Benny the Butcher, Snoop Dogg, Usher, Lox, Lil Wayne, and DMX’s son, Exodus Simmons. It’s only right that Exodus was executive produced by Swizz Beatz, according to him the project will be released May 28 through Def Jam.

2. Travis Scott-Utopia

Utopia will be the fourth studio Album by rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and Stormi’s Daddy, Travis Scott. The album will drop by way of Cactus Jack Records and Epic Records. This is the follow-up to his 2018 release Astroworld and his compilation album JackBoys which released in 2019.

Travis revealed the title of the album back in June 2020 via Instagram and he’s been teasing us since. In an interview with  i.d. Travis said, “Ive been making beats again, rapping on my own beats, just putting everything together and trying to grow it really. Thats been one of the most fun things about working on this album. I’m evolving collaborating with new people, delivering a whole new sound, a whole new range.” One thing Travis does have is his own distinctive sound, for him to say he has been developing a new one keeps us all on our toes.  His previous album Astroworld was nominated for Best Rap Album at the Grammy’s and Sicko Mode featuring Drake was nominated for Best Rap Song. Sicko Mode climbed all the way to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Travi’s first Billboard number one ever. There were other noteworthy singles on the project such as “Butterfly Effect”, “Yosemite”, and “Wake Up.”   You never know what to expect from Travis.

1. Drake – Certified Lover Boy

Is it fair to say that anything Drake drops will go down in history as one of the greatest!? Certified Lover Boy is the scheduled sixth studio album for Drake. It will be the follow up album to Scorpion which dropped way back in June of 2018, yes it’s already been that long. This past April, Drake let us know that he was working on a new Album and since then has teased us with vague internet comments like “Album Mode” via Instagram.  The first single of the album will likely be “Laugh Now Cry Later” the regal horned street anthem that peaked to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, featuring Lil Durk. The album will be released through OVO Sound and Republic Records.
