A New Collaboration of Elton John and Metallica Seems On Its Way
Elton John has recently guested SG Lewis on his show “Rocket Hour” on Apple Music 1. And during their conversation, the legendary singer revealed to Lewis that he had a record with Metallica.
Although the exciting news he has given, Elton John didn’t say more detail about the project he and Metallica were up to. The talented and beloved vocalist said in the latest episode of his show that:
“I’ve just done something with Metallica. During this lockdown period, I’ve been working with Gorillaz and people like that. I haven’t been doing any Elton stuff, but I’ve been doing great stuff with other people,” reveals him along with other projects he has been working on.
On the other hand, it got all of us remembering the previous statement of Miley Cyrus about her upcoming Metallica covers album will feature John playing the piano on her version of “Nothing Else Matters”.
Back in January, Miley Cyrus had an interview with the U.K radio station Capital FM where she said, “I did a Metallica cover of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ featuring Elton John on piano, I’ve got Yo-Yo Ma, Chad Smith; so many all-stars in this band. I’m so excited about this collaboration.” So, it also makes us wonder, could there be more?
Cyrus also continues talking about the upcoming Metallica cover of hers with John and says, “I mean, having Elton John and Metallica and me … I love when ingredients don’t quite fit. Or it seems like a concoction that no one would ever put together, and you gotta have someone like Andrew Watt that will take that risk.”
We also remember the time when Metallica played two concerts with the San Francisco Symphony back in 2019. Back then, Lars Ulrich posted a picture of him, his wife, and Elton John on Instagram, capturing:
“Beyond inspiring to spend an evening in the company of one of the greatest songwriters and entertainers ever… thank you Elton for your generosity and embracing vibes!”

If we come to the more present times, Ulrich also told Classic Rock that Metallica was also on “glacial” progress on the 2016’s “Hardwired… To Self-Destruct” album’s follow-up as well in January. During another interview two months before with Rolling Stone, the talented drummer also revealed that Metallica was nearly a month into “some pretty serious writing” sessions for its next studio album, too. Lars Ulrich also told at the CNBC Evolve Summit in January that he and his bandmates of Metallica have been working on new music for “the last six [to] eight weeks virtually.” On the other side, he said there was also a myriad of technical issues that have slowed their progress as well.
So it seems like the past months have been really busy for both Elton John and Metallica, gladly. Even if we do not know what record John was referring to, it’s really exciting to hear the news of something nice and tasty is on its way, obviously. So what do you think and what are your guesses? Let us know and stay tuned for more details as we share them as soon as we get them!
