10 Things You Didn’t Know about Mozzy

Mozzy has been doing his thing in the music industry for more than a decade. Since then, he has released more than two dozen projects. He has also gotten to work with some of the most well-known names in rap music. However, it wasn’t until recently that he started to get a lot of mainstream attention. His latest album, Untreated Trauma, is a mix of life experiences and dreams for the future. Although he isn’t as commercially successful (yet) as some of his counterparts, Mozzy has all of the makings to become a star.  If you’re not familiar with him yet, now is a great time to learn about him. Keep reading to learn 10 things you didn’t know about Mozzy.

1. He’s A California Native

Mozzy is California through and through. He was born and raised in the Oak Park neighborhood in Sacramento. Unfortunately, neither of his parents was a part of his life. However, he was raised by his grandmother who was a member of the Black Panther Party.

2. He’s Had Trouble With The Law

Things in Mozzy’s life haven’t always been easy and he’s made some questionable decisions over the years. He has been arrested several times over the years. Some of these arrests have even impacted his career due to him being on probation and not being allowed to leave the state of California. His most recent arrest was in 2018 for gun possession.

3. He’s A Family Man

Different people may see Mozzy as different things, but when he’s at home his main focus is being a father and a good partner. He is a very proud dad to his two young daughters. He also appears to be in a relationship although it doesn’t look like he’s revealed his girlfriend’s identity.

4. He’s Really Big On Treating Everyone With Respect

Once some people start to get a little money and success, they’re really quick to switch up with how they treat people. That, however, isn’t how Mozzy moves. While talking to Interview Magazine, Mozzy said, “A lot of people be uppity, I’m very down to earth. I heard a saying, ‘I treat the janitor the same as the CEO.’ That describes me 100 percent. I don’t care what position you play on this team, if you on this team, you’re MVP.”

5. He Got A Shoutout From Kendrick Lamar

No matter what industry you work in, it’s always nice to know that someone who is considered one of the best thinks highly of you. Mozzy got to experience that at the 2018 Grammys when Kendrick Lamar shouted him out and quoted him as he accepted the award for Best Rap Album.

6. He Has His Own Line Of Merch

Music is definitely Mozzy’s main focus, but it isn’t the only thing he’s created for his fans. He’s also developed a merchandise line where he sells a variety of items including t-shirts, journals, shorts, and hoodies. All merchandise is available directly through Mozzy’s online store.

7. He Has Used His Platform To Speak Up About Things He Believes In

As the grandson of a Black Panther, it’s not too surprising that activism is something that runs deep through Mozzy’s veins. He has used his Instagram profile as a way to show his support for the Black Lives Matter Movement and the overall fight to end racism.

8. He Has A Deep Love For Language

Mozzy is often credited with having a very good grasp of language which helps him continue to be creative with his lyrics. He credits this with his lifelong love for learning. He told Passion Weiss, ” I’ve always been a fan of words since I was a kid. One of favorite words was encyclopedia, E-N-C-Y-C-L-O-P-E-D-I-A. I used to tweak with the thesaurus and the dictionary. I used to just go and search for new words to use.”.  He continued,  “I just got a relationship with words. I function with ‘em heavy.”

9. He Used To Perform Under A Different Name

These days, the world knows him as Mozzy, but that wasn’t always the stage name he used. Early in his career, he performed under the name Lil Tim. This is in reference to his government name which is Timothy Cornell Patterson. We weren’t able to find any information on why he chose to switch to Mozzy.

10. He’s Scared Of Going Broke

Some people are here for a good time. Some people are here for a long time. Mozzy is hoping to be here for both. Now that he’s gotten a taste of success, he doesn’t ever want to lose it. While talking to Passion Weiss, Mozzy said, “Scared of going broke. On my Momma. I’m scared of being this high up and going back down and having to live there.
Longevity. I wanna be here for a minute…”
