1. Her Name Isn’t Actually Ari Lennox
It’s very common for people in the entertainment industry to use stage names, but Ari Lennox doesn’t sound like a stage name to most people. Surprinsigly, however, it is. Ari’s real name is Courtney Shanade Salter. The name Ari Lennox was inspired by Mary Lennox, a character from The Secret Garden.
2. Her Talents Were Often Overlooked
Anyone who has heard Ari’s voice would probably agree that she’s incredibly talented. However, she wasn’t always treated that way. When Ari was younger, her talents were often overlooked. Ari told NPR, “I always wanted to solo at the church and they didn’t ever give it to me. But eventually they did and I froze. But then I killed it. just feel like that kind of just followed me all throughout my life. I’ve always kind of been slept on a bit.”
3. She Used To Be An Uber Driver
Before Ari broke into the music industry, she worked a series of odd jobs at places like Planet Fitness and a public storage company. Her longest job, however, was driving for Uber. She worked there for about two years, but she took several breaks after riders threw up in her car.
4. She Got Kicked Out Of Her First L.A. Apartment In Less Than A Week
Ari has experienced her fair share of ups and downs on her journey to become a professional singer. When she first moved to Los Angeles, she found a roommate through an app. At first, she thought it would be a great situation, but things ended up going left within Ari’s first few days of moving in. Ari and her roommate ended up getting into an argument over soda and the girl kicked her out of the apartment.
5. She Has Diverse Taste In Music
Ari may be an R&B singer, but that isn’t the only kind of music she listens to. She grew up listening to a wide variety of music that included Coldplay and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. However, she also listened to R&B greats such as John Legend, Erykah Badu, and D’Angelo.
6. She’s a Dog Mom
Ari doesn’t have any children, but she’s still living that mom life thanks to her fur baby, Galactus, who is about two years old. Due to her busy schedule, she doesn’t always get to spend as much time with him as she’d like, but she considers him to be her pride and joy.
7. She Used To Promote Her Music On Dating Apps
In her music, Ari has been very open about the fact that she’s been on Tinder and other dating apps. While it’s true that she was on them looking for dates, she was also using them to promote her music. During an interview with GQ, she said, “My bio for the most part was me promoting my music. I was that girl. It actually helped me when I did OkCupid. I had a sexy picture and a link to my “Drunk in Love” cover and I sent mad guys to watch it.”
8. She’s Dealt With Anxiety
Ari may seem confidence and at ease every time she performs, but underneath it all she has faced serious feelings of anxiety and this is something she’s talked about in her music. Many people think her song “Static” is about love, but Ari has revealed that it’s actually about anxiety.
9. She Isn’t Afraid To Speak Her Mind
If there’s one thing Ari is always going to be, it’s herself. She is the kind of person that isn’t afraid to stand up for what she believes in and she has used her platform to do just that. Ari has consistently spoken out against racism and police brutality. She has also encouraged her followers to do their part.
10. She Was A CNA
Even though Ari has a great singing voice, she didn’t always plan on getting into the music industry. As a result, she tried her hand at lots of different things in an attempt to find a traditional job. At one point, Ari earned her certified nursing assistant certificate, however, she never actually worked as a CNA.
